Snyder notes that Ukraine’s strategic position is currently fundamentally stronger than Russia’s. However, his most profound analysis touches upon Donald Trump:

“At this point, Ukraine’s position is stronger than Russia’s. And I think, in an odd way, Trump has been bad for Putin because he has de facto helped Russia. But he has helped them prolong a war they cannot win, so by helping them, I think he has made the damage to them greater.”
