Lauren Boebert was shocked to learn in November that she’s in more of a swing district than she thought, so now she’s trying to pivot toward the middle. She’s calling on Donald Trump to convince Kevin McCarthy to drop out of the Speaker race. She’s appearing on MSNBC to try to pass herself off as reasonable.

But no one is buying it. Her MSNBC appearance was disastrous for her. And she clearly has no influence over her fellow House Republicans one way or the other. All she’s really doing is alienating the far right. So now she’ll be even more vulnerable in 2024.

Lauren Boebert only won reelection by about 500 votes in November. It’s clear that her brand of deranged extremism isn’t playing as well in her district as it used to. Her career is on thin ice, and she knows it. But the moves she’s making suggest that she has no idea how to pivot toward the middle. The harder she tries, the uglier her reelection prospects in 2024 are likely to become.
