❗US #CIA Director arrives in #Moscow for secret talks!
CIA Director John Ratcliffe arrived in Russia aboard a C-17 military aircraft to take part in meetings in Moscow today, CBS News correspondent Jennifer Jacobs reported in X, citing sources.
A US Boeing C-17 Globemaster III military transport aircraft, as revealed today by data from Flightradar24, flew from Riga to Moscow’s Vnukovo Airport this morning. It had arrived in the Latvian capital from the state of Maryland, home to an airbase where, amongst other aircraft, the US Air Force’s presidential aircraft are stationed.
Following reports of the US military aircraft’s arrival, a motorcade bearing the number plates of American diplomats was spotted on the streets of Moscow today. Dmitry Peskov had previously stated that the Kremlin had no information regarding the US military aircraft that had arrived at Vnukovo.
Representatives of the US Department of Defence, the White House, the US Embassy in Moscow and the Russian Embassy in Washington did not respond promptly to questions about the purpose of the flight, notes NBC.
If the CIA director has indeed flown to Moscow, this would be the first such visit since the start of the war in Ukraine. The previous one took place in November 2021. The then head of US intelligence, William Burns, made a secret visit to warn the Kremlin that the US was aware of Putin’s preparations for an invasion and to dissuade him from taking that step.
