🇪🇪🇱🇻🇱🇹🇷🇺 KASPAROV WANTS NUCLEAR-CAPABLE MISSILES MINUTES FROM MOSCOW
Garry Kasparov is calling for NATO to place nuclear-capable missiles in the Baltic states, arguing that Moscow being roughly ten minutes away by flight would fundamentally alter the Kremlin’s calculations.
His case is built on deterrence: if Russia knows that an attack on NATO could trigger consequences vastly exceeding any possible gain, the incentive to escalate falls.
Such a deployment would mark a major change in NATO’s current posture and would carry serious escalation risks. Kasparov’s argument is that ambiguity favors Moscow, while credible deterrence requires making the cost of attacking the alliance unmistakable.
His proposed answer to Russian pressure on NATO’s eastern flank is therefore not restraint through distance, but deterrence through proximity.
