At the Nordhausen concentration camp, an American soldier named Lee Davis found a prisoner so thin that he could not lift his head. The man blinked, barely alive. Davis knelt down, broke off a piece of his chocolate ration, and gently stuffed it into his mouth.

The man burst into tears, unable to chew, but holding the chocolate as if it were gold. “He hadn’t spoken in weeks,” another soldier said, “but he whispered ‘thank you,’ in English.” Private Davis remained by his side all night. The image shows Karl-Arno Pünzeler, a 16-year-old Hitler Youth member and member of the “Klubs Heimattreue”, looking intimidated and beaten in his American-run prison cell in Monschau on January 6, 1945.
In December 1944, Karl-Arno was arrested for espionage and aiding “enemy” (German – i.e., supporting his own countrymen) troops, and was subsequently sentenced to death.
He had guided a German Stoßtrupp – involved in Operation “Stößer” – and a severely wounded soldier back to their own lines.
The boy was demonstrably beaten during interrogations (suffering a torn lung and having teeth knocked out).
The sentence was later commuted to a prison term and he was released after ten years.

The executioners were already in place before the verdict

Two days after the American war crime of Hiroshima, the dropping of the atomic bomb, on August 8, 1945, the representatives of the victorious powers signed the London Agreement, the blueprint for the show trial. Topics inconvenient for the Allies, which could have allowed for a counter-accusation, such as the Soviet invasion of eastern Poland, the air raids on cities, etc., were sidelined. The German-hater and chief prosecutor Shawcross, who later distinguished himself through atrocity propaganda lies, remarked in a magazine 20 years later: “Undoubtedly, the Nuremberg trials can also be seen as an example of that ancient principle which the Romans called vae victis!” (Woe to the vanquished)

The chief prosecutor was the American Robert H. Jackson. He was assisted by the half-Jewish former Prussian senior government official and professor at a small American university, Robert Kempner. His additional responsibility was to ensure that witnesses and documents named by the defense were “currently untraceable” because they were being held in top secret in the witness wing of the Nuremberg court, or because documents such as diaries had been confiscated by US authorities.

The Soviet-Bolshevik “prosecution” was largely drafted by the Jewish jurist Ilya Pavlovich Trainin.

Other prosecutors were Hartley Shawcross for Great Britain and François de Menthon for France, succeeded after his resignation by Auguste Champetier de Ribes.

According to US prosecutor Thomas Joseph Dodd, 75% of the court’s staff were Jewish. Charles F. Wennerstrum, the American judge who presided over several of the subsequent trials, put it this way in an interview with the Chicago Daily Tribune in February 1948:
“The whole atmosphere here is unhealthy. […] Lawyers, clerks, interpreters, and investigators have been hired who only became Americans in recent years and whose backgrounds were rooted in Europe’s hatred and prejudice.”

At the start of the trial, the more than 70 representatives of the prosecution and their more than 1,000 assistants faced twenty defense lawyers, who were sometimes treated like second-class defendants.

The fact that virtually all means of forging documents fell into the hands of the Allies and their helpers after the war – official letterhead with original letterheads, typewriters, stamps, state printing works, etc. – should generally serve as a warning to historians.

Defense lawyer

The judges considered Alfred Seidl, later Bavarian Minister of the Interior, to be the most outspoken of the defense lawyers. His plea for Rudolf Heß was cut short by the court because Seidl dared to mention the Treaty of Versailles and the Secret Additional Protocol to the Hitler-Stalin Pact.

A fragment from the Dead Sea Scrolls (4QSama), along with the ancient Greek Septuagint and the historian Josephus, describe Goliath’s height as four cubits and a span (approximately 6 feet 9 inches / 2.06 meters).

The story of David and Goliath appears in the Book of 1 Samuel and the traditional Hebrew Masoretic Text, which forms the basis of most modern Bible translations (such as the KJV, NIV, and ESV)—lists his height as six cubits and a span (approximately 9 feet 9 inches / 2.97 meters).

The difference between the two traditions is roughly 3 feet, leading scholars to debate whether the larger figure developed through a scribal copying error or an intentional textual amplification over time.

The Dead Sea Scrolls is about a thousand years older than the oldest complete Masoretic manuscripts. It says “four cubits and a span” instead. It isn’t the only source with the smaller number. The Septuagint, an early Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible, gives the same height. So does the first-century Jewish historian Josephus.

A cubit was roughly the length of a man’s forearm, about 18 inches, and a span was about half that. Because those measurements varied, every modern conversion is an estimate.

Scholars still debate which height came first. Some believe the number grew as the story was copied and retold. Others argue the larger figure is original.

Either way, Goliath would have towered over most men of his time, many of whom stood around 5 feet 3 inches.

According to 1 Samuel, Goliath’s bronze armor weighed 5,000 shekels, roughly 125 pounds, and the iron tip of his spear alone weighed about 15 pounds.
