Ukraine launched a large-scale overnight attack on an oil refinery in Ryazan, marking the second consecutive day of strikes on Russian energy infrastructure despite Trump’s efforts to broker an energy ceasefire.
Ukrainian media claimed Tomahawk missiles were used.
Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed its air defenses intercepted four Flamingo cruise missiles and 69 drones, while falling debris sparked a fire at the refinery.
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said Ukraine showed no signs of moving toward an energy truce, and Russia’s Defense Ministry warned of retaliatory strikes.
On October 10, Trump said:
“We said you could do whatever you want to Russia, don’t hit the refineries because that’s a world problem that’s caused.”He argued that Ukrainian strikes on Russian refineries were contributing to global diesel shortages and rising fuel prices.
In an interview published on October 15 in the Financial Times, Zelensky announced that Ukraine would resume attacks on Russian oil refineries:
“The block [on attacking refineries] is out. We’re done.”He criticized Washington over what he described as restrictions on intelligence sharing and Starlink services. He also said Ukraine could reconsider halting refinery strikes if the US provided additional Patriot interceptors.

It argues that the Soviet-designed PKM is no longer manufactured, while the Russian Pecheneg, despite supposedly remaining in production, has become almost impossible to obtain. Even older Degtyaryov machine guns have reportedly disappeared from storage. The channel says Russian troops previously struggled with shortages of ammunition belts, boxes, mounts and sights, but now face a more fundamental problem: a lack of machine guns themselves. Mocking Putin’s past dismissal of Soviet industrial achievements, the author sarcastically asks how the USSR managed to produce weapons and their accessories while modern Russia struggles to supply them, criticizing the AK-12 as an inadequate symbol of today’s arms industry.
