🐴🇷🇺🇺🇦 Sergey Lavrov has effectively declared that Moscow does not consider preserving a sovereign Ukraine compatible with its definition of “victory,” once again exposing how far Russia’s war aims extend beyond territorial disputes.

📌 “Ending the war against Ukraine without destroying its sovereignty would be a betrayal of our ancestors,” Lavrov said. According to him, agreeing to a ceasefire along the current line of contact while allowing what Moscow calls a “Nazi regime” to remain in Ukraine would amount to betraying the generations that defeated Nazi Germany.

Lavrov’s statement strips away much of the Kremlin’s diplomatic packaging. If preserving Ukrainian sovereignty itself is presented as an unacceptable outcome, then Moscow’s objective is not simply control over occupied territories, but the destruction of Ukraine’s ability to exist as an independent state outside Russia’s sphere of domination. That position also raises an obvious question about the value of any ceasefire that merely gives Russia time to rebuild its forces while its fundamental objective remains unchanged.
