Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova warned that Moscow could strike British military targets both inside and outside Ukraine if Kyiv continues using UK-supplied long-range weapons to strike Russian territory. This direct escalation threat on follows the UK government’s decision to grant Ukraine access to classified technology to launch its own domestic production of Storm Shadow cruise missiles. Concurrently, reports revealed that CIA Director John Ratcliffe made a secretive, unannounced trip to Moscow earlier in the week to explicitly warn the Kremlin against launching any military or cyber attacks against NATO member states, particularly on the alliance’s eastern flank. NATO Defense and Intelligence Signals: The CIA chief’s warning was prompted by a recent U.S. intelligence assessment indicating Russia might test NATO’s resolve with localized border incursions or heavy cyber warfare targeting Baltic nations. Ratcliffe also leveraged the meeting to pressure Moscow into reducing its economic and military ties with Iran. [6, 7]
UK Defiance: A spokesperson for Britain’s Ministry of Defence responded to the explicit threats by stating that London stands “shoulder to shoulder” with Kyiv.
