After the Iran war, Gulf states are already reassessing how dependent they want to be on Washington for their own security.

If confidence in the U.S.-led alliance system slips further, more countries are likely to diversify their partnerships instead of relying on a single guarantor.

China would have every strategic reason to welcome that outcome.

A world where American alliances look less dependable is a world where Beijing gains influence without having to confront the United States directly.

Right now, Putin’s got his hands full with Ukraine, especially its drones, and a real energy crisis as a result.

But keep an eye on Kaliningrad. NATO certainly is.
