🇹🇷🇮🇷 Turkey and Iran are moving to lock down the 560 km border they share
-Turkish and Iranian delegations met Tuesday in Ağrı province in eastern Turkey, with Governor Önder Bozkurt leading the Turkish side and Colonel Mehdi Habibzadeh, border guard commander for Iran’s Maku region, leading the Iranian side
-Talks covered stopping irregular migrant crossings, fighting drug trafficking, expanding customs capacity and broadening cooperation on border security overall
-The two countries share roughly 560 kilometers of land border, one of the region’s busiest for both security and trade, anchored by the Gürbulak to Bazargan crossing
-Turkey has kept up operations against PKK positions in the mountains where its border meets Iraqi Kurdistan and Iran, with the group reportedly pulling back from the Gara and Matin mountains toward Qandil, closer to Iranian territory
-Al Mayadeen’s correspondent in Sulaymaniyah reports the PKK and Iranian separatist groups have started digging trenches and tunnels along three axes near the Iranian border
-Iran has continued striking Kurdish and opposition groups in the region during the war
