According to information circulating in Ukrainian defense channels, Paris and Kyiv are discussing a possible Rafale delivery around 2028, while France could also join Sweden in preparing Ukrainian personnel for the transition to Rafale and Gripen aircraft. The same reports suggest the first Gripens could arrive from the winter of 2027, with Sweden potentially donating 16 Gripen C/D fighters while a separate acquisition process covers 16 newer Gripen E aircraft.

If these plans materialize, Ukraine’s future air force would increasingly move away from its Soviet-era foundation toward a European-centered fleet built around several Western aircraft families. Training pilots and ground personnel years in advance would be essential to that transition, but the reported Rafale timeline and specific Gripen numbers remain preliminary rather than finalized delivery commitments.
