🇺🇸🇷🇺 Trump is giving Putin a pretty big reason to bring the Ukraine war to an end.
The two spoke by phone today after U.S. peace negotiators visited Moscow and Kyiv over the weekend, talks both leaders apparently viewed positively.
According to the Kremlin, Trump told Putin that ending the war could basically unlock a full reset between Washington and Moscow, especially on trade and economic ties.
Putin backed that approach and also told Trump what he thinks the U.S. could do to help bring the war to an end.
They agreed to keep prisoner exchanges going and stay in contact.
So Trump’s pitch to Putin seems pretty straightforward:
End the war, and a much bigger U.S.-Russia relationship could be waiting on the other side.

Some 10 days before Hamas’s October 7, 2023, attack on Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was personally warned by the leader of the United Arab Emirates that Hamas was planning a major offensive move against Israel, but did not update Israeli security leaders and did nothing with the information, according to a report on Tuesday.
The Haaretz newspaper report cited a new book, “Kidnapped: 843 Days of Abandonment,” by journalists Shlomi Eldar and Ruth Yuval, based on interviews with dozens of sources including senior officials in Israel and around the world. It said three senior foreign officials were updated on the contents of the 45-minute phone call at the end of September, and it cited a Palestinian adviser to Emirati President Mohammed bin Zayed who emigrated from Gaza to the UAE and had direct knowledge of the conversation.

Putin Rejects Trump Ceasefire: Defeat Could Cost Him Power:
Trump and Putin spoke today for an hour. The topic is obvious: Trump wants a ceasefire, while Putin will not accept one until Russia’s war aims are met.
For Putin this is not about peace. It is about staying in power. Concessions to the U.S. and Ukraine would look like defeat and could bring him down. That is why he will keep fighting. He reportedly said Russia has no aggressive plans toward Europe. Those words should not be believed. If Putin ever concludes he is losing control at home, he is ready to gamble on a wider war with Europe and NATO to survive.

🇺🇸🇺🇦 US Deputy Secretary of Defense Elbridge Colby stated that Russia’s war in Ukraine could continue for several more years.
At an online meeting of representatives of countries supporting Ukraine, Colby called on Kyiv’s allies to “prepare for a very long war,” AP reports.
According to Colby, Europe must be prepared to support Ukraine militarily for the long term.
“We cannot predict when this tragic war will end,” Colby said.
Colby also stated that Ukraine’s supporters “must be prepared for other possible scenarios,” without specifying what he meant.
